Semy

Graphic Design, UI/UX Design
Examples of the final website for Semy
I was the designer behind the initial sketches, wireframing, prototyping, coding, implementing, and user testing and analyzing.
Project Overview
With the position of Graphic and Web Design Intern, I was the only active web designer.

Within my six months at Semy, I was able to create a thorough redesign of the entire website, condense and clarify copy, and create graphic designs for promotional materials. People seemed to be getting confused about what Semy was, so I set out to rectify this issue through revamping the entire site.

Initial Research
Dec 2023 - Jan 2024
As I first set out in this project, it was vital to improve the clarity and declutter the previous website. The older version of the site had repeated sections that made navigation cluttered and confusing.

Many of my participants who read the original website were confused on what the company does by the copy and the images. I made annotations on each page and presented my notes to my managers on how to rework the site.

So, how do I make the company stand out to users?

I began by mapping out what each current page had in terms of content, and then determining which sections would be kept and which would be moved or deleted in order to improve the flow between pages.

My process in coming up with notes and initial ideas included drawing out the user flow, coming up with the target audience and user, making a general user questionnaire, and creating empathy maps. Then, I drew a quick sketch wireframe according to my manager's critiques, making sure that my initial ideas aligned with their vision.

I also reworked copy to make the brand message more cohesive.

Wireframes/ Lofi/ Hifi
Feb 2024 - March 2024
The next steps after planning out the new site map was to take my sketch mockups and begin prototyping. After the initial wireframes prototyping was done, I got to work finding participants to test my prototype, and reworking the design to fit the needs of the user and the wants of my managers.

This cycle of iterating, prototyping, researching, analyzing, and presenting to my managers repeated about twice for the lo-fi and hi-fi prototypes. I enjoyed creating assets with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and learning how to use Adobe After Effects and Lottie.

Implementation & Conclusion
March 2024 - May 2024
Finally, after the creation of my hi-fi prototype, I got to implementing my design on the Semy Wordpress. This required me to code the navigation bar with CSS classes, and to rework some assets as my managers wanted to have a more realistic style for the images on the site.

I really appreciated working at Semy due to the amount of agency I had in the design direction. I was able to practice numerous important UX skills, and I honed my UI eye.
